It always hits me that first time I notice that it’s dark in what was just the middle of the afternoon days before. I was playing soccer with my son a few weeks ago when I noticed it this year. I thought we had plenty of time to kick the ball around, but instead the shadows were already ominously long. It was, at most, 4 pm.
