Shein’s Cotton Tied to Xinjiang—Where China Is Accused of Forced Labor

 

Shein is a fast-fashion phenomenon expected to pull in around $8 billion in sales in the US alone this year. But tests conducted for Bloomberg showed Shein had used cotton from the Xinjiang region of China in some of its clothing, which is banned in the US. The area may sound familiar: It’s where China is accused of detaining a million Uyghur Muslims and subjecting them to forced labor and committing other crimes against humanity.
