Dubai has long been associated with its powerful ruler, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. At 73, he’s been handing over more responsibilities to his millennial sons in the Middle East’s finance and tourism capital.
That kind of gradual distribution of power is normal in the dynastic Persian Gulf. What is intriguing in Dubai’s case is a careful dissemination of roles to two very different royal sons.
