Europe Shows Splits Over Putin’s Gas Demands

Europe is showing signs of splintering in its response to Russia’s threat to turn off the gas if companies don’t pay in rubles. Governments and companies are wrestling with the dilemma of bending to Moscow’s demands or risking the need to subject their citizens to energy rationing.
Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, was struck by Russian missiles on Thursday evening, and Odesa was also hit. Yet the battle for Donbas region in the east remains Russia’s strategic focus in the face of stiff Ukrainian resistance.
