A friend of mine was recently accused of having a “monsoon fund.” An adviser reviewing his finances said he had accumulated so much cash that his rainy day fund had become large enough that it would start costing him. Inflation, we know, is eating into the value of cash.
I wish I had the problem of having too much cash. But I don’t wish I had all the confusion. My friend has been keeping his money out of the market in large part because he didn’t buy the pandemic-era hype of meme stocks, cryptocurrencies, and tech stocks. He may have missed out last year, but more recently, it looks like many of his fears were justified.
