A consumer health check, U.S.-China relations in focus and oil traders vexed again.

U.S. consumers will get a health check with this morning, with an expected acceleration in headline retail sales. Core growth, stripping out auto and gas sales, is forecast to remain unchanged at 0.7% from a month earlier. Investors will also get an update on the supply side of the retail equation when Walmart Inc. and Home Depot Inc. report earnings today. Analysts will be paying close attention to any signs of margins being hit by supply-chain issues.
