Elon Musk was absent from Tesla’s quarterly earnings call this week, but he still managed to stir up controversy.
On Tuesday, news broke that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hired Missy Cummings, a former Navy fighter pilot, Duke University professor, and vocal critic of Tesla’s Autopilot software, as a senior safety advisor. It’s a temporary position, meant to aid the agency in what it calls the “transfer and use of new technologies.”
