On Monday morning, the man who prevailed in Germany’s race to succeed Angela Merkel as chancellor called on potential partners to join him in a new government as soon as possible. Olaf Scholz, of the center-left Social Democrats, appealed to the environmentally minded Greens and pro-business Free Democrats to back a three-way coalition following his narrow victory in Sunday’s election.
