U.S., EU Work Through Tension to Produce Diplomacy First on Tech
The European Union and U.S. pulled off a diplomatic first on Wednesday, laying out plans for transatlantic cooperation to protect businesses, consumers, and workers from unfair trade practices, especially those posed by non-market economies — meaning China.
In the inaugural meeting Trade and Technology Council, first announced in June, the sides’ trade and commerce chiefs set out how the economies will collaborate in areas ranging from screening potentially hostile foreign investments and exports controls, to artificial intelligence, trade and ensuring the security of semiconductor supply chains.
