Late Friday night, Tesla finally released “the button.” Owners of Tesla cars who paid for what Tesla calls Full Self-Driving, or FSD, can now request to participate in the company’s beta testing program.

Don’t let the name fool you — the software is not fully autonomous and drivers still must pay attention. Global autos editor Craig Trudell and I wrote all about this here. Roughly 2,000 people, mainly Tesla employees and fervent fans, have been beta-testing the software for almost a year. Now, the masses are clamoring for access.
