Hi all, this is Zheping in Hong Kong. One way to discern the future of the wildly popular video platform TikTok is to look at the Chinese version of the app, Douyin. Douyin is owned by the same parent corporation, ByteDance Ltd., and frequently gets the first taste of features that eventually make it to TikTok—from live-streaming capabilities to goofy camera effects.
Lately Douyin has added a more significant change: In-app online shopping.
