One thing about writing an end-of-the-week newsletter during a breakneck news pace: There’s an inclination to start with a “phew, that week felt like a month.” It’s hard to remember what happened yesterday, much less on Monday.

Hopefully, The Reading List helps bridge that gap by suggesting stories you may have missed that provide some clarity and insight into what’s going on around the globe. Or perhaps just what’s going on in the life of one very wealthy Chinese CFO who’s on bail in Canada. —Megan Hess
