As the global trading system turns a page on one its most turbulent chapters, the U.S.’s path to redemption under President-Elect Joe Biden will come neither quickly nor easily.

There are critical trade disputes, like Europe and America’s fight over aircraft subsidies, that aren’t going away simply because there’s a new leader in the White House. Meanwhile, other initiatives like the U.K.’s push for a speedy trade deal with the U.S. will probably take a back seat.
