More bad news for jobs, all stimulus hope still not lost, and the EU calls in the lawyers.

Initial jobless claims are not expected to show much improvement from last week's 870,000 total when the data is released at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The number comes as more companies announce they are going to move ahead with layoffs with American Airlines Group Inc. and United Airlines Holdings Inc. cutting a combined 32,000 positions. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. is also swinging the ax. Increasingly, signs are pointing to the rapid rebound in activity in the third quarter grinding to a near halt.
