Coronavirus May Never Go Away, WHO Warns
Greetings, QuickTake readers! In this edition: Militants attack Afghan maternity ward, Spanish herd immunity is still far off, and a virus-detecting face mask that lights up is in progress.
The WHO said Wednesday that it's possible coronavirus may be here to stay, warning that it's impossible to predict when the pandemic might be controlled. "This virus may never go away," said emergencies expert Dr. Michael Ryan, adding that without a vaccine, it could take years for people to build up sufficient immunity. He said Covid-19 could become "just another endemic virus in our communities," similar to HIV for which "we've found therapies and prevention methods, and people don't feel as scared as they did before."
