Spooked Arab World Scrambles for Response to Trump’s Gaza Plan

Behind the display of solidarity with Palestinians lies a concern over the security and stability of a vulnerable Middle East.

Donald Trump drew worldwide condemnation with his proposal for a Gaza “riviera,” and it may be unlikely to come to fruition. But with a Middle East at a critical juncture, Arab governments are united: Ignoring the US president isn’t an option.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II will deliver a concerted message from the Arab world to Trump on Tuesday that he needs to think again. It will come after days of public rebuttals to Trump’s plan to displace residents and have the US take over the Gaza strip, as well as private consultations between Arab leaders.
