Christmas Job Ads at Recession Levels in Warning for UK Economy
Reed Recruitment says budget is hitting firms and consumers, adding gloom over Britain’s near-term prospects.
Demand for Christmas workers was barely higher in October than when Britain was in recession a year earlier, in a fresh sign of trouble for Europe’s second-largest economy.
Data provided by Reed Recruitment show there were 4,823 seasonal postings in retail, hospitality and transport during the peak month for Christmas hiring — just 1.2% more than in October 2023 and a third less than before the pandemic.
