On many weekend afternoons and evenings in Oaxaca, the sound of calendas can be heard parading through the city center. In recent years, these celebrations, which feature upwards of 12-piece brass and drum bands, dancers in colorful dress and oversized puppets, have become a major draw for visitors to the city.
