New Yorkers are contending with sweltering heat Tuesday as high temperatures threaten to topple regional records and strain energy supplies.

Manhattan’s Central Park is set to reach 95F (35C) Tuesday, with humidity making it feel closer to 99F, the National Weather Service said. From New England to North Carolina and west to Ohio, temperatures may approach or top as many as 57 daily highs, including in Newark, Philadelphia and Washington.
