New York City’s transit system and Long Island Rail Road workers reached a potential labor agreement, setting the stage to end a historic strike that suspended service on the largest commuter line in the US.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, a state agency that oversees the city’s subway, bus and commuter rail lines, reached a tentative deal with five unions on wage increases, Governor Kathy Hochul posted on X. Phased service on the LIRR will resume Tuesday at noon, she added.
