Public transport operators in several major Kenyan towns began a strike on Monday to protest soaring fuel costs after diesel prices jumped 50% since the start of the war in Iran.

Bonfires, stones and uprooted guardrails blocked major thoroughfares into the capital, Nairobi. Residents that use public transport were forced to walk to work, and rioters turned back private vehicles trying to access the city center.
