EU Plans Tougher Trade Measures to Rebuff Chinese Export Surge
European Union officials are exploring whether the bloc needs new measures to protect its economy against an influx of Chinese goods, according to people familiar with the matter.
The aim of the discussions is to assess which instruments member states are willing to deploy against overcapacity in China’s manufacturing sector, and whether new measures are needed, the people said, asking not to be identified because the deliberations are private. The threshold and terms to deploy the EU’s most potent trade tool, the anti-coercion instrument, will also be considered.
