Australians Expect Budget Will Leave Them Worse Off, Poll Shows
Australians broadly expect the Labor government’s annual budget will leave them worse off, according to a new opinion poll, as Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ efforts to increase fairness while tackling inflation failed to gain traction with the public.
Just 11% of respondents said they expect to be better off from last week’s fiscal statement, a Newspoll published in the Australian newspaper on Monday showed. That was the weakest post-budget result since 2014, with 52% saying they would be worse off.
