China signaled that Australian beef imports are nearing a key safeguard threshold, with shipments reaching 80% of an annual quota that caps imports at current tariff rates.

The Ministry of Commerce said that once shipments hit 100% of the quota, additional imports will face a 55% tariff on top of existing duties starting three days later, according to a statement on Saturday.
