Warsaw has registered its first same-sex marriage after a Polish court opened up a path for the country, where such unions are banned, to recognize those legally conducted in other European Union member states.

“This morning, we issued the first transcription of a marriage certificate for a same-sex couple,” Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski said Thursday, adding that the administrative action took place “without delay, immediately.”
