Rayner Readies Bid for Starmer’s Job After Tax Probe Ends
Angela Rayner, the UK’s former deputy prime minister, has been cleared of deliberate wrongdoing by an investigation into her tax affairs and is preparing for a potential leadership bid against her former boss, Keir Starmer.
Rayner was cleared by the British tax authority, HM Revenue & Customs, of carelessness or deliberate wrongdoing and has settled £40,000 ($54,000) in unpaid stamp duty, a spokesperson for Rayner said on Thursday. She hasn’t had to pay a penalty as a result of the probe into the taxes paid on the purchase of a second home in southern England, the spokesperson said.
