European Stocks Gain as Traders Watch US-China Talks; Burberry

European stocks advanced for a second straight day, as index heavyweight ASML Holding NV climbed 3% on the back of better-than-expected results from Cisco Systems Inc in the US.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Index was up 0.8% at the close, with technology shares leading the gains. Siemens AG rallied 2.6% after agreeing to acquire several businesses from Mer Mec SpA. Miners and financial services underperformed, with the latter dragged down by private equity firm 3i Plc’s 13% slump after retailer Action — a key part of its portfolio — reported slowing sales.
