Canadian home sales edged up in April as recent price declines and the start of the traditional buying season brought more bidders to market.

The number of homes trading hands rose 0.7% from the previous month, according to data released Thursday by the Canadian Real Estate Association. But a faster pace of new listings helped push the seasonally adjusted benchmark home price down 0.1% from March to C$658,100 ($480,000). That was the slowest pace of monthly decline since October, real estate board data show.
