In what’s shaping up to be a subdued summer for sporting events, rentals in the Hamptons are easier to find and easier on the wallet ahead of the US Open Golf Championship at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
It’s too soon to say the Hamptons are on sale, but rates — while still eye-popping for most — are coming down as a wave of homeowners put their properties up for rent, hoping for hefty paydays from golf fans. The average nightly rate in the Hamptons is $1,106 during the championship rounds from June 18-21, according to vacation rental analytics firm AirDNA, down 2.5% from the same period last year. Hampton Bays saw the biggest annual declines where the average daily rate is about $26 cheaper than last year at $802 a night.
