Russian President Vladimir Putin replaced the heads of two regions bordering on Ukraine that have been repeatedly targeted by Kyiv’s forces since the war began more than four years ago.

Alexander Shuvayev, a general who fought in Ukraine, was appointed as acting governor of the Belgorod region, taking over from Vyacheslav Gladkov, the Kremlin said Wednesday. Yegor Kovalchuk, an official who served in the occupied Ukrainian region of Luhansk, takes charge of the Bryansk region from Alexander Bogomaz.
