Holed-Up Philippine Senator Courts Support Over Police Standoff
Two days after he dramatically re-emerged into public view, a Philippine politician with an outstanding arrest warrant is holed up in the Senate with police massed outside, one of the more bizarre episodes in the country’s politics in recent years.
Ronald Dela Rosa is playing cat and mouse with the police, asking the Supreme Court for a temporary restraining order against his arrest and in the meantime seeking to drum up public support. That’s creating a standoff not just with law enforcers but also with other senators, some of whom have urged him to stop using the building as a shield.
