A caucus of more than 100 lawmakers on the left wing of Britain’s governing Labour Party called for a “new economic framework” with less “caution” on fiscal policy, in an apparent attempt to change direction if Keir Starmer quits as prime minister.
Louise Haigh, a Labour member of Parliament who chairs the Tribune Group, said the current structure of the UK Treasury’s role in fiscal policy “resolved in favor of caution.” She said Britain’s fiscal and institutional framework is “unfit for purpose.”
