The US sanctioned a dozen entities and individuals over the sale of Iranian oil to China, stepping up economic pressure just days before President Donald Trump meets his counterpart Xi Jinping.

The US Treasury blacklisted 12 firms and individuals, including some based in Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, saying in a statement they facilitated the sale of oil on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
