Allies of UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting joined the growing calls for Keir Starmer to step down as pressure mounted on the prime minister in the wake of last week’s disastrous local election results.

The number of Labour Members of Parliament publicly calling for the premier to go rose above 55 on Monday evening. They included Streeting’s ministerial aide, Joe Morris, and his constituency neighbor Jas Athwal, leading to intense speculation in Labour that the health secretary is preparing to challenge Starmer.
