Starmer Faces Mounting Calls to Step Aside Despite Plea for Time

Pressure built on Keir Starmer to lay out a time table for his departure after the British prime minister’s latest attempt at a reset fell short what of what critics said was needed to quell the rebellions within the Labour Party.

The ranks of Labour members of Parliament urging Starmer to either step aside or make a plan to leave Downing Street continued to grow on Monday, despite his warnings that a leadership contest would plunge the country into chaos at a time of crisis. Several lawmakers said they struggled to see a path forward for the prime minister as the party was increasingly consumed by discussions about who might step forward to succeed him.
