Switzerland looks set for a nail-biter vote on a proposal to cap its population at 10 million people, with a new poll showing the public is split down the middle on the issue.
Both the pro and anti sides have 47% support, according to the survey for broadcaster SRG SSR published Friday. It’s an illustration of how deeply split the country is between worrying about how immigration is straining public resources and recognizing that businesses depend on foreign labor.
