PT Freeport Indonesia said its giant Grasberg copper mine may return to full production in early 2028, as the company continues its protracted recovery from an accident last year.

The complex in Central Papua province is targeting a return to “full capacity” by early 2028, Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas said in a statement dated Thursday. That’s roughly in line with a target of end-2027 confirmed by Freeport-McMoRan Inc. — Freeport Indonesia’s minority shareholder — on April 23.
