Denmark’s caretaker Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen suffered a setback in her bid for a third term after more than six weeks of coalition-building talks hit an impasse.

Lars Lokke Rasmussen, the head of the centrist Moderate party who is in a kingmaker role after the vote, said Friday he would nominate the Social Democrat premier’s rival, Liberal leader Troels Lund Poulsen, to take over the negotiations.
