The Fuel-Cost Crisis Is Opportunity for Consolidation, IAG Says
British Airways parent IAG SA said the fuel-cost surge stemming from the Iran conflict has created an opportunity to snap up struggling rivals, highlighting how the crisis has split the aviation industry into those on the hunt and others vulnerable of going under.
“We continue to explore opportunities in our core markets and have been approached by airlines looking to discuss potential options given current market pressures,” Chief Executive Officer Luis Gallego said in a statement to Bloomberg, without naming possible targets. “While we remain highly selective about what we would pursue, this environment may create opportunities for IAG.”
