UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband privately urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to consider setting out a timeline for his resignation, amid concerns that losses in the local election will see him forced out of office, The Times newspaper reported.

Miliband, himself a former leader of the Labour Party, made the suggestion in a meeting around two weeks ago, sources told the Times. It comes as Starmer’s rivals in the party, including former Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Health Secretary Wes Streeting, are preparing to launch their own bids to replace the premier if the results of local elections held on Thursday are particularly damaging for Labour.
