Germany’s Far-Right AfD Widens Lead in Eastern State Before Vote
The far-right Alternative for Germany is on track to dominate this year’s election in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt, according to a new poll by Infratest Dimap.
The survey of 1,167 people published Thursday sees the AfD on 41% before the September vote, well ahead of Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democrats on 26%. The Left Party is at 12%, while Merz’s coalition partners, the Social Democrats, trail on 7%.
