US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will spend three days in Japan starting Monday and is expected to meet senior officials including Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi before traveling to China, according to local media reports.

He is likely to meet on Tuesday with Takaichi, Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama and Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda in separate meetings, according to the Nikkei newspaper. Bessent will likely discuss recent moves in the currency market, as well as key issues like rare earths and the war in Iran, the newspaper reported, citing unnamed diplomatic sources in Japan and the US.
