New York Times Adds 310,000 Digital Subscribers, Shares Rise

New York Times Co. shares rose as much as 13% after the company reported first-quarter sales and earnings that exceeded analysts’ expectations as the newspaper publisher continues to invest in non-news products, including games.

The Times reported earnings per share of 61 cents on Wednesday, excluding some items, topping Wall Street estimates of 47 cents. Revenue totaled $712.2 million compared with expectations of $700.8 million.
