Lufthansa Outlook More Risky as Fuel Adds €1.7 Billion Cost

Deutsche Lufthansa AG warned of mounting risks that include the surge in fuel costs and a possible kerosene supply crunch later in the year, prompting a more muted profit outlook and the hunt for additional savings.

Lufthansa said it plans to offset the financial burden from rising fuel prices — which the airline group put at an additional €1.7 billion for the year — with higher revenue from ticket sales, optimized network planning, and further efficiency measures that it didn’t specify, according to a statement on Wednesday as the airline group reported earnings.
