Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and eleven others are accused of irregularities during a 2023 convention of the Republican People’s Party, or CHP, including bribing members to elect Ozgur Ozel as the new leader. They deny the charges and say the case is part of an attempt by Erdogan to undermine the opposition and ultimately extend his more than two decades reign.
