The US military helped two American-flagged ships go through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a broader effort to open a lane through the vital waterway, the commander of US Central Command told reporters.

Admiral Brad Cooper said Iran has tried to interfere with vessels in the area over the last 12 hours, and the US successfully repelled both drone and missile attacks. He said US helicopters had also destroyed small boats going after commercial vessels.
