Hungarian outgoing foreign minister Peter Szijjarto, whose ties to Moscow triggered speculation about his allegiance during the election campaign, said he had no regrets about cultivating relations with Russia.

“This hurts me personally,” Szijjarto told independent news website Telex late Wednesday when asked whether his activities amounted to treason. “For 11 years I worked on a normal, pragmatic relationship” with Russia, he said, asserting that Hungary had benefited from cheaper energy as a result.
