Polish e-commerce platform Empik SA expects to boost profit and sales this year as it taps into a surge in consumer spending on lifestyle and leisure.

The company, which began as a state-run bookstore chain in the 1950s, has transformed into one of Poland’s top online platforms with more than 12 million annual customers. Unlike its larger e-commerce rivals, including Allegro.eu SA, Empik combines internet presence with a network of 386 physical shops.
