Niger Weighs Military Conscription to Combat Islamist Militants

Niger is considering introducing military conscription as part of domestic efforts to combat Islamist militants who pose a threat to stability in the West African country, a security official said.

“We need to be able to implement mandatory military service,” Interior Minister Major-General Mohamed Toumba said in an interview with state-run Radio Télévision du Niger.
