EU Warns Balkan Hopefuls That Reforms Are Needed to Access Funds

The European Union is warning six candidate countries in the western Balkans that they risk losing out of €700 million ($823 million) in funding from the bloc unless they carry out required reforms by the end of June, according to a person familiar with the matter.

At the European Parliament’s foreign affairs committee meeting on Monday, the bloc’s enlargement chief Marta Kos is expected to outline the shortcomings of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, said the person, who requested anonymity to speak on sensitive issues.
